Posted on: 2017-05-03
What: Geography of Food: Coffees of the World
Where: Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Rd., Avon, CT 06001
When: Thursday, July 20, 2017. 11:00 am
This talk will discuss the role of geography in understanding the production, movement, and consumption of coffee around the world. Which countries are the coffee powerhouses and why? What is the role of sustainability in coffee production? Why was it considered the "devil's drink" for so long? We will include a coffee tasting and food pairing representing different global regions as part of this class. However, you do not have to be a coffee drinker to enjoy this course! Led by Dr. Pope. Samples will be served!
Dr. Pope is a Professor of Geography at CCSU and teaches all levels of human geography courses, including a course on the Geography of Coffee. She came to this specialty after her scholarship and teaching in and about Latin America and the Caribbean. She also teaches and conducts research in Medical Geography, and her countries of focus are Cuba and Belize.
Programs are free and open to the public and will be held in the community room at the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Rd., Avon, CT 06001. 860-673-9712 ext 4.
